We want to fly to Taipei. Usually, we'd fly in J ex-EU for around £1600. With BA typically taking muse FRA-LHR-HKG then Cathay doing the last bit HKG-TPE. Often, my partner would drop out at LHR on the way back, although I fly the entire route.
At the moment, BA prices to HKG for February are crazy high, from any European destination. Best I can find on oneworld is around £2200 on Cathay from Paris. We get more airmiles if flying BA and flying Cathay removes the opportunity to stop at LHR. I'm hoping for a drop in prices to HKG in a couple of weeks, but it's a gamble as prices typically go up within a few weeks of departure. I'll be keeping an eye on things.
We don't need to fly via HKG and occasionally I feel like trying, say, Qatar, but their prices are also expensive right now plus I don't like the idea of breaking my flight in the middle. I like the long Europe to Hong Kong flights.
