Just found this thread and I guess I got lucky? Over the weekend I booked KTM-HKG-SFO-JFK in March for 30k miles in Y and had zero issues other than the 30k rate only being available 3 days that month. I had to call CX to select seats but that is done and confirmed now, and even got specialty meals selected online.
