You read that right. I called AA Concierge Key, who connected me to a BA call center, who are telling me to fill out a form on BA.com. I refused the refund they offered. Should I fly tonight on $28,000 tickets and claim against BA??
Firstly find out if the $28k is sunk - can it be recovered from AA if you cancel? If not, you will have to stick with it, though I would be uncomfortable with the risk attached here. BA is required to rebook the same day, and appears able to do this, albeit their first suggestion in the app didn't work for you. If BA has offered a same day rebooking, then unfortunately you don't have good grounds for the $28k. However you can show that BA were not contactable - did you also look at the app at 07:00 hrs? However yes, despite my misgivings about this, and possibly the way you handled this, you should claim from BA for the replacement tickets. Plus EC261 of £520 per passenger.

That was the right thing to do, this means the travellers remain BA customers at the moment.
