Welcome to Flyertalk and welcome to the BA forum. And yes, I know it's easy to say, but going into panic after a cancellation is rarely good. If you had a cancellation, and it wasn't Extraordinary Circumstances, plus BA could not rebook you within a few hours, then you are eligible for compensation and a refund on your BA fare, so hopefully you're in the frame for this. The other option is BA rebooks you to Wizz and you get compensation, thereby saving the cost of the Wizz tickets, but BA won't be able to do this, as things stand. So what is better is to not ask for a refund, instead formally ask BA to rebook on Wizz. If they don't do that then they are on the hook for Wizz's fares and you can pursue BA through MCOL or CEDR for this. But you've now found Flyertalk so you know where to come if this happens again.
