iahphx There might have been a language barrier confusion- even though the elite breakfast is free, the restaurant still give you an itemized bill of what was ordered. At check-out that itemized breakfast bill is fully credited againts, i.e. zeroed out.
However, whatever gratuity that you add to that itemized elite breakfast is fully chargeble to you. And it looks like that was what they did charging your card the gratuity amount you wrote.
Given the highly inflated list prices of all F&B, the suggested gratuity amount printed on that inflated itemized bill is misleading since technically the entire breakfast is comped for elite members (and the cost of the itemized food is zeroed out at checkout).
We did not leave any breakfast gratuity for our first 2 nights (similar to how there is no bill or expectation for gratuity for breakfast at the next door Hilton AIl Inclusive) but for our last breakfast left a nominal gratuity as our last server was super attentive. That nominal gratuity was reflected in our checkout folio.
One thing I would say about incorrect billing is that I've noticed that this property
does not attempt to make things right- as previously we were charged for the wrong kids entree meal and were charged a in-room dining service fee that was not disclosed at the time of our stay on the in-room dining menu.
I mentioned this to both the front desk checkout staff as well as dropped an email to the FO manager but no response was given and no corrections to the folio was made. Given the low monetary value involved of under USD $15, I did not pursue the matter.
Best of luck and do share back if the property did amend your folio and refund the charges.
