Hello everyone! Couldn't find any info on FT about this company / flight, so thought I would write a little review after my trip last month. Might be useful for someone traveling to Tbilisi, Georgia...
Airline: Georgian Airways (formerly Airzena)
Flight number: A9 628 (Air France codeshare AF3030)
Departure: 19:40 from Paris CDG, terminal 2C
Arrival: 03:10 to Tbilisi TBS
Class: C
Bought the ticket through Air France website as part of a multi-city journey in the beginning of November. Arrival to CDG was on time and I had 2 hours to kill. Unfortunately, I was a little too quick to go through the passport control and transferred to terminal 2C (read some stories here about horribly long lines at immigration, however, I was able to pass within 5-10 minutes). To my surprise, NONE of the lounges in 2C allowed me entry, even though I was flying in business and had FB Gold status. I kept being bounced around from one lounge to the other and in the end had to give up. It was too late to return to the AF lounge in 2F so I sat down and patiently waited for my flight. Boarding started on time and business class passengers had their own line to queue in. The plane was a tired 15-year old B737-800, which looked to be the only workhorse at Georgian Airways, since they went bankrupt in 2021. During the years it has changed very many hands and looked (and sounded) like it needed a bit of maintenance. Pretty outdated cabin with 2 - 2 layout in business. Economy was packed, but we had about 30% occupancy in the cabin upfront, so it wasn't that bad. Interestingly, the curtain separating economy and business was placed so far back that we had 3-4 rows of economy seats in the standard 3-3 layout for ourselves, which meant that one could stretch out and try to get some sleep on this nearly 4,5 hour flight. Takeoff was a bit delayed, but after we got going the lovely flight attendants were immediately starting preparations for dinner, served drinks and made us feel very welcome onboard. I went for lamb stew and rice paired with a Georgian red wine. The food was HOT, it was delicious, there were two meal options (unlike the single, sad, VEGAN option you get on some other legacy European carriers...hmmm hello KLM/AF?) and, believe it or not, we actually got PROPER steel cutlery and plates. After flying business intra-Europe with KLM many times, I was not used to this kind of service, so I was able to forgive them absolutely EVERYTHING else from the old plane, missing lounge in CDG and the horrendous arrival time in TBS. The flight attendant came up with a refill and brought me a whole new plate with food, since they had leftovers due to the nearly empty cabin. After being completely stuffed with meat and khachapuri I went to the vacant row 5-6 and settled in for a nap. The flight attendant appeared immediately with an extra pillow and blanket and did not disturb me for the rest of the journey. Arrival was on schedule, although a bit bumpy on the way down. All-in-all, a very pleasant flight experience!
P.s. the locals were quite surprised that "Airzena" was still flying and recommended me to try TK or LH next time. Surely, their offering would be superb to anything Georgian Airways or even Skyteam could offer, however, this flight was booked on purpose, since I was missing a few XP towards my platinum status.
P.p.s. KLM/AF can learn a thing or two about catering in short-haul C!
P.p.p.s. Forum now lets me post photos
