In the past, I've used one of these to transport bottles of wine (not as many as 12 bottles, though) - I believe they're available in the UK/EU, mostly from photo dealers:

It's sized and marketed as a carry-on, but you won't be able to do that if it's filled with liquids. But you can slap a couple of locks on it to forestall "shrinkage" and check it. Some US carriers treat anything in a Pelican case as a presumptive firearm, and give it special handling. You may need to pick it up at the oversize luggage desk.
