I know some of the other guests were bothered by the bugs. It was hit or miss whether people had reactions to them or were just annoyed by constantly having to wipe off their bedding/sinks/clothes etc. For me, they were just annoying, but my partner had welts and was itching badly. We didn't discuss the food with anyone; just tried to stay focused on the positives and getting to know them and the staff.
Yeah I think that's a very fair point about the CPP. I think I was enamored by the CPP and didn't do enough research. Glad you had some positive experience. I won't get my Hyatt points back but I think I saved 160k united points just by not doing the flight.

It's an expensive lesson. And a lesson learned: I do not think I would enjoy the trip given the triple threat of bad food, bad bugs, and bad diarrhea.

Thank you so much for the information. I think I know my vacationing styles a lot better now.

If anyone wants it, the calala island reservation should be open from Jan 5-8th now.
