What’s the route and airline involved?

You can try your luck with getting the airline agents to check you in and fix the situation at the airport anyway, if not willing to cancel the ticket and pay for a new one at whatever is the currently prevailing price. But then you’re sort of at the mercy of the involved airline agents and any airline security contractors involved on the trip. Often they may not even do a fix and it works fine to travel anyway.

Technically, an airline should be able to check you in and forward the proper APIS info anyway even when there is a name order swap on the ticketed booking for international trips to the US. I’ve seen most of the EU and US airlines fly people from India to the US with name order swaps and do so without major issue — beside any issues related to getting the frequent flyer program credits and/or FFP elite status benefits to work. Actually, the biggest issue on the international trip to the US airports of entry that I’ve seen when my travel party members have had ticketed name in reverse order to passport names per the MRZ has been the frequent flyer program aspect.
