Courtyard Puebla Las Animas, Puebla, Mexico [Master Thread]
Starting a master thread for the property because I wasn't able to find one. I stayed here while at a work event in Puebla - I had a little trepidation because of the lower review scores of the property on TripAdvisor and the Marriott website, but I had a wonderful stay and would return! As a Titanium member, I had a room on the top (7th) floor, which has been remodeled with newer furnishings and faux-wood flooring. (From other pictures online, I'm not sure if lower floors have been remodeled yet). I was also given a corner room with a lovely view.
I might be used to the current state of US Marriott hotels, but I was able to have the breakfast buffet as my welcome gift, which had a really amazing selection with a lot of local flair, probably on par or better than breakfast at a lot of full service hotels in the US. Every day there was hotcakes, refried beans, and scrambled eggs (often with vegetables or meat mixed in). And then usually 4-5 other hot options that rotated around (such as chilaquiles both green and red, fajitas, stewed chicken or beef dishes, slider sandwiches, hot cooked vegetables). Along with the normal continental options like fruit, yogurt, cold cereal, breads & pastries, and juices.
It's been years since I've gotten a "surprise and delight" type of gift from a Marriott hotel, but my first night I received a nice letter from the manager and nicely plated piece of cake delivered to my room, which was a lovely surprise. I knew enough Spanish and the staff knew enough English that we could communicate well (though I think the staff is proficient in English, as there seemed to be other English-speaking guests in the lobby who seemed to be served well).
Alas it's a little further from places like the historical district and other tourist locations. I usually used Uber to get to/from the hotel to other places (Uber drivers seemed to refer to it as just "the Marriott). But there's also a sort of fancy grocery store in the shopping mall around the corner too for additional food needs on foot. Even with the distances, the staff made a good impression on me and I'd be happy to return!
