Coincidentally, about 5 years ago, I was flying CDG-IAD in E+ on an 767 which even then was ancient. The lights did not work for my seat or my neighbor (I had the window, he had the aisle). The FA said we would get a miles credit. Sure enough, on the next month's statement, there was a special credit for 5,000 miles which was actually *more* than whatever miles I got for the actual route. I couldn't complain, especially as the light from the window and my laptop was bright enough that I could spend several hours writing an article on the laptop.
