I have done LHR 5 times this year the D1 security is still there via the elevator and has never taken more than a minute. Check-in can be a little crowded in the main area, but walk to the D1 check-in off on the side and it is maybe 10 minutes. Yes, they have had lines out the door for traditional check-in, just make sure to walk to the side and avoid the massive line
