I earned quite a lot of Avis Preferred points in 2018. I've kept the account active with at least one rental every 12 months. But I'm now thinking about the "60 month" discussed in
https://www.avis.com/en/legal-documents/loyalty-terms provision 4.a. Trying to figure out if this rule really means what some blogs say -- that notwithstanding activity in the account, Avis will remove points from rentals that were >5 years ago. If so that's an unusual rule for a US program -- some foreign airlines use approaches like that, but standard US approach is that any activity keeps the whole account active.
I wrote to Avis CS which replied "Please be advised that points will expire along with your Avis account after a 12 month period of inactivity. We can confirm the last activity on your account was on x, when you redeemed y Avis points." That sounds like no 5 year rule.
Lots of points at issue. Despite their low and uncertain value, I'd rather not lose them. What have others experienced with this 60 month rule?
