Edited to add - just had a look at
www.flysaa.com and the taxes are in fact ZAR160 making this a real bargain. Have you tried to make the booking using your OS credit card? On the booking page they ask for a phone number but not a billing address and the tickets are e-tickets - maybe it will process anyway. I'd try it out myself but this fare expires Feb 28 and I'm looking to fly CPT-JNB on March 9

Making a correction, sorry...
I should be more precise... the airfare for 2 is R600 and taxes are R789 also for 2. I agree it is outrageous that the taxes are often more than the actual fare, but such as the way with cheap fares. My 136 pound fare on BA LHR-HKG had about 80 pounds in taxes.
Problem with kulula is that it's oneway, so SAA is still cheaper (at least in this special instance). I have only managed yo fly SAA and BA within SA, thankfully.
What is an OS credit card? (escuse my ignorance)
I've just finished speaking to SAA, and they have made a booking for me subject to approval by their payment department, but the agent was quite certain it should go through okay (especially since we are residents).
