So Avis preferred has been going downhill of late - the last year or so but even considering that, the Avis STL St Louis Missouri airport is an absolute disaster. Avoid at all costs. The online app booking doesn't mean anything here- it doesn't work. You still have to go stand in the loooong line.

So arrived at 11pm at the Avis STL after the shuttle and the app did not work and said I have to go to the counter. It was the longest line I have ever seen anywhere and it was outside the doors onto the parking lot. And only 1 guy at the counter! People in the line said they were waiting for hours and it was taking upto 4 hrs to get a car !! 4 hrs that's ridiculous. Decided to leave and come back early next morning.. Took uber to hotel. Next day was 2nd in line as I arrived before opening time . Still only 1 guy working and he was so slow and so disinterested- not sure why these guys even join for work.. took me almost an hour to get a car.. Car was atleast decent but heavy strong chemical use and smell. Return was uneventful with auto key drop off.

Only used Avis as National and Alamo closed earlier.. Avis is a last choice option now only if others are sold out. Had a similar experience at Avis DAL Dallas love field- but atleast the line was smaller.. Avoid Avis if you can and stick to Alamo or National. Not sure how Hertz is nowadays. Back.in the day Hertz was the gold standard for business travelers.
