UA, *A, or partner flights, not just UA.

It's a relatively new thing (within the last couple years I believe). You used to be able to bring non-UA guests in (I've done this with Delta friends before) but they changed it so you have to be flying UA. I don't know the exact date, but I do believe this changed recently.
+1 - was able to get in with any airline's BP before the policy change, as long as you have a UC membership.
