I'm really bad at saying no. He was with his son (maybe 15?) So him watching his kid seemed more important than my making money for two equivalent seats (at least to many).

I think I've said no to a seat trade once. Someone flying something like LAX-IAD literally wanted me to give up 7A (with cutouts for bag) for something like 35B. I thought they were kidding when they asked but they were actually serious.
