Cancellations can occur with no notice (mainly tech related), whereas crew availability and forecast poor weather might see some advance notice (hours).
I posted the ExpertFlyer screenshots so you can see the loads on the days concerned and allow some assessment of the possibility of flights being full.
As you have noted, FlexiRefunds are no use if every other flight is full. Proactively moving to an earlier flight further de-risks things - and provides more time to enjoy Auckland
