I can't help but observe that this whole promotion smelled just a little bit amateurish.
Sure we'll all get the miles due us...I'm assuming...as a result. But to pull the promotion after less than 24 hours. Huh??
The cost of setting this promotion up was not small potatoes.And the several hundred million miles Delta gave away was no small cost either....no matter how you value miles.
And to answer the other posters who claimed the PR was worth it, I offer that 99.99999% of Delta's target audience had no clue this offer ever existed. The only ones who benefited were the vultures from FT.....of whom I'm a proud member

....and those from other Internet BB's who became aware of the offer.
If this is what Delta was hoping to accomplish with this offer, so be it.
But my personal opinion is that something went waaaaay wrong with this promotional effort.
