While I'm an employee (in the interest of full disclosure) I am here as a client. I have had the Platinum Card for years, but I didn't know it would now be taxable. Oh well. I still like the card a lot.

3 examples:

Southwest flight this year cancelled due to weather. Amex covered a nice hotel, food, drinks and transportation.

A few years ago, I paid around $1,200 to refinish the wheels on my Audi. Maybe 2 weeks later, I curbed a wheel. 100% my fault. Amex paid for all 4 wheels on the grounds that it was damaged after purchase (purchase protection).

Booked a 1 night stay after a cruise in Barcelona. Picked the Monument Hotel (highly recommended). I think I paid about $330, but Amex rebated me $200, gave me a pretty nice upgraded suite, and $100 credit that we used for dinner and wine in their rooftop bar and restaurant. I think our tab for dinner, drinks, an appetizer and desert was $22 after the credit.
