I called AF and explained the situation and they reopened the claim. A day later I received a follow up e-mail providing me with HALF the compensation I'm owed under the EU regulation. I'm planning to call back to see if they will give me the rest of what I'm owed. EC261 seems like a good deal on its face for consumers, but in reality it leaves way too much wiggle room for airlines to deny your claim and/or give you the run-around. In the US, airlines take complaints to DOT fairly seriously. Does anyone know if a complaint to the French consumer protection authority gets the airline's attention?
