It's been suggested upthread that this property may still upgrade Ambassadors to suites, and I can confirm that's true. App showed pre-upgrade from base City View cash booking to Ohana Suite about 10 days out, and the upgrade held. I can also confirm that this is one of the few domestic Marriotts that actually provides enhanced Ambassador benefits, in this case a welcome amenity consisting of a large box of cookies from Honolulu Cookie Company. Can't remember the last time I received a true welcome amenity at any Marriott outside of Thailand.
The Ohana Suite (we were on 26) has an odd layout - an entry foyer with a smallish living room off to the right, a king bedded room more or less straight ahead, a 2nd two double-bedded room off to the left, and a single smallish bathroom. Two small balconies, one with Diamond Head view and one with ocean view straight to the west. We liked the suite - used the second BR, which had the Diamond Head view, as a dressing and lounging area.
We did not use the continental breakfast voucher. We paid for a full breakfast one morning (meh) and went elsewhere the other two days. We found the service very pleasant, with the exception of one incredibly rude woman at the bell desk who refused to give us beach towels (we know they stock them because (1) we were told by valets to ask for them at bell desk, and (2) a different gentleman had given them to us no problem the day before).
IMO the best feature at this property is the spectacular, uninterrupted ocean views. Leave the sliders open at night and you can sleep to the sound of the surf. Overall a nice stay. May try to squeeze in one more before dropping from Ambassador ranks next year.
