I think part of the confusion is the use of “domestic US flights” rather than saying “a wholly US domestic itinerary”. AA used to use language like that. Might still do. The odd rule is that LAX AS lounge acknowledged I would have been allowed entry to their lounge IF that LAX SFO flight had been on AA rather than AS. That doesn’t make sense.
