If I downgrade my CSR to a Freedom, I'll have three cards with the quarterly bonuses, along with my wife's two. Hopefully, that's not red flag material.
I just opened a new Chase Sapphire Reserve. It didn't give me immediate approval when I submitted the application, but the application was approved the next business day without any further action on my part. I already had two Freedom Flex (one downgraded from my previous Reserve 1+ year ago), one original Freedom, and one Freedom Unlimited. I was debating closing the original Freedom (very old card, low $8k limit) but decided not yet since the PayPal bonus is so easy to use. I'm maxing out the bonuses on all three Freedom rotating categories this cycle. I've only opened one card within the last two years (the original Freedom Flex).
So while there might have been a slight red flag in so many Chase cards (and credit lines), it didn't make a difference in the end. I'll still probably close the original Freedom next year.
