Moxy Osaka Shin Umeda

Just a report on the Moxy Osaka. I was there for a mid-November stay for 4 nights. Sorry if there are too many photos. I can edit down, if need be.

Location: The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Osaka Station (15 min with luggage) and a 10-minute walk from the Fukushima JR Station which is on the Osaka Loop line which I found useful. I took the Shinkansen to Shin Osaka station and it was a very quick transfer to Osaka Station. And, there reverse was true - I was able to buy my Shinkansen tickets at Osaka Station, as well.

Vibe: It's a Moxy, and if you've stayed in one, you'll get the general style of the hotel - which is "funky". Check-in is at the bar, and the decor tends to be hip. This particular Moxy had a surprisingly extensive common area with plenty of seating and places to work. A couple of the elevators have disco lighting, and the staff are casual, but of course, exceedingly polite.

Check-in: I was recognized as a platinum, but unlike the Kyoto Moxy, they provide Platinums with breakfast as one of your options at check-in, which I chose. They also gave me a coupon for a free welcome drink. The rooms aren't provisioned with bottled water, but you can get them at the bar/check-in area.

Room: The room was nice, but continued the funky theme. Instead of dressers or closets, they have pegs along the wall to hang things, which worked surprisingly well for me. The one glaring exception is the stupid, little refrigerator they hang from the wall. It's this tiny thing that can hold, 2 bottles of water - it's very shallow and practically useless. They also had a folding luggage rack and small folding table hanging on the wall which I used. No real desk and chair to work from, but there were plenty of spaces to work in the lobby area. Room was a good size and the bathroom was fine - good water pressure in the shower.

Facilities: They had a coin-operated laundry on site which I found very useful, as well as, a small gym. They had a ring apparatus rather than a standard cable machine which I found less useful, as well as a punching bag, but they had the standard bench and dumbbells.

Breakfast: Breakfast was a fair, hotel breakfast. They had more Japanese options on the weekend (e.g. fish). It was fine.

Given the price I paid relative to other Marriott hotels in the area, I found this to be a perfectly acceptable stay and enjoyed my time.
