Just a word of warning but PLEASE double-check your class of travel when making any adjustments via the call centre to your flights.

Recently I had some Finnair flights cancelled and moved to different times but luckily they allowed me to change the travel dates (by a day each way) free of charge. Since then I thought everything was smooth as silk until earlier today the Finnair app showed the option to waitlist for a business class upgrade for 50k points. Hang on, 50k? Doesn't a PE to biz upgrade require only 30k? Of course it does. Little did I know... but my PE booking somehow ended up being entirely converted into regular economy!

So be careful folks. Very careful. I only caught this mistake by chance and could easily have overlooked it, thinking that surely a change of dates wouldn't dump me out of my original travel class. And yet it can happen.

Huge praise to Finnair customer service for dealing with this, even on a Sunday. I called, was put on hold for a while as they contacted their own back-end technical support, then had to leave my contact details to have them call me back. Which they did. Great service and problem resolved, but keep your eyes peeled as something unexpected like this could happen again.
