No more Business Class on Coast Starlight
Today I visited the San Jose Diridon Station and went to the ticket counter to print out my ticket to go from San Jose-Lamy and back. There was a schedule change on the Coast Starliight by a few minutes on the return fine I get that. The agent could not print out my ticket and got some error code so she called her suport team. They told her that there is no more Business Class but Amtrak failed to let me know when I called in a few weeks ago to discuss another scheudle change for the Bus to Stockton. I prefer takng the CS over the Surfliner.
They refunded me the $31 which is great but changed the terms of my ticket. At the time of booking Value Fare and Saver were the same on the Application so Customer Service switched me to the Value Ticket and if one has Business Class it seems like the ticket is more flexible I am also losing the 25 percent bonus miles, access to the Metropolitan Lounge at LAX and any other benefits like a smaller car , wider seat etc.
Do you think Amtrak may want to give us the Bonus Points and Lounge Passes to make up for the downgrade to those who call in like mysel or an upgrade to a Roomette even if it were at a discounted price I would consider it, Look its mid January and Amtrak has Roometts for sale at $245 why not upgrade the displaced passengers to a Roomette as opposed to downgrading them to show them what you get!
Amtrak still advertises Business Class on the Coast Starlight with no end date.
I watched today's southbound Coast Starlight pull in and and I spoke with the Lead Attendant who said it was ending after this month. The agent at the desk told me they ended it in October. I booked it in September and always pay the cost to upgrade. Why didn't Amtrak inform me when I clled in a few weeks ago about this?
If an airline downgraded a passenger they would usually throw in some extras to keep the loylty. OK I get it this could be a temporary discontinuation but at least Amtrak could offer a new product like purchase two coach seats and for these downgrades block the seat next to me! I would gladly pay $$$$ for a 2nd seat at 50 percent of the fare in order not to have a stranger next to me .
Even if they threw in Meal/Drink Vouchers, a Future Travel Certificate to make up for it that would give Amtrak a chance to apologize for this.
I e-mailed the Office of Customer Relations and also spoke with a CSR who created a case. At least if they hear from myself and others they may find ways to reinstate it.
Another theory is there may have only been a few reservations in Business Class and they downgraded them. I went online to search Business Class and could not find the fare bucket so I thought its sold out!
I think Amtrak is overall ia great company and overall I am pleased with their services.
