The process changed, and boooking.com can now be found under the BA Shopping portal. In my opinion, it is an improvemet, as you now receive an email from BA if the purchase has been registered and how many Avios are expected.

Previously I would always take screenshots during the booking process as proof, but I never had any issues having the Avios credited.
