When is the best time to purchase a ticket to US from UK?

All
I am planning a trip to the US in June next year and am looking of advice on the optimal time to purchase the ticket. I seem to remember reading somewhere that prices are at their lowest about 6 weeks before planned departure. I will be booking an ex-UK trip in Club as I want to get double TPs from a BA holiday booking. I am heading to PHL, but am willing to go to other East Coast airports if needed. I have some flexibility on travel dates (+/- 1 day on each leg). And it would not be the end of the world if I do not make the trip, so I can take the chance on prices going out of my reach. Current fares are about £2,200. I could make a decent saving doing an ex-EU, but clearly there are no double TPs on these. Google is saying that the fares quoted are "typical" (actually the low end of "typical"). I am minded to follow the 'bird in the hand' advice, but of course wonder if things may get better nearer the time. Any advice/observations much appreciated.
