I’d expect this issue will become the subject of lawsuits, complaints to states’ attorneys general, and other consumer protection advocates. I’d expect a class action over this.
In what way is this a bait and switch? They are making the change next program year having announced it ahead of time. Those who are upset by the change can by all means status match to United or AA for next to nothing and enjoy the benefits from that next year. I also doubt there will be a class-action lawsuit, or if there is one it won't go far. Was there an outcry when Delta limited SkyClub access to Medallion members travelling internationally in economy? What about when United limited Lifetime Club members only to those travelling on UA/*A?
