I just stayed in a huge IHG resort in SEA. It had around 400 rooms and was fully booked. Management created an event for status members and invited me as diamond. During the event which had 8 people attending, i learned that in this massive fully booked property there were 22 people that had SOME status in IHG, including just being a new member. Can't blame people who hit the nights or points requirements for being annoyed, but, unfortunately, that's the game these days.
The above elite percentage seems very atypical. Only 5% of a sold-out hotel had IHG status? Maybe it was a huge tour group from some other country.
