Skymiles account compromised and now locked, how long until I get access again?
Late on the 28th I got an email from Delta that an Award Redemption had occurred and that I should call if it was not expected.
Since it was not me, I first logged into my account and changed the password. I also checked my wife and kids accounts for activity and changed their passwords as well.
I don't have many miles at all as I tend to use them as soon as I earn enough for a trip. They were only able to use 19500 to purchase part of a ticket from BTR-ATL-STL that was due to be flown on Nov 29th.
Then I called Delta. The hold time was about 15 minutes which didn't seem that bad. I got through to someone and explained what happened. The representative seemed to understand and left me on hold for 45 minutes (periodically returned to say they were still working) while they spoke with the fraud department. Eventually they returned and said I needed to call 1-866-209-1202 to get my Skymiles back. Turns out that is the number if you have Delta gift card related fraud. I wasted 50 minutes on that call.
So I called Delta back again and got a different representative. Again I was put on hold for 45 minutes or so and this time the representative cancelled the ticket which appeared to refund the miles to my account. Mentioned he was not sure where to refund the cash portion, I told him the card used was probably stolen from someone else. Not sure what he did with the cash portion.
In any event he said they would now need to lock my account and I would have to use the ID Verification Form to regain access. It was late but I went ahead and submitted the form with a copy of my drivers license.
Any idea when I will get access again?
At that point, having already changed my password, what is the point of them locking my account?
