I could have booked the cheapest room to save 50 USD a day.
I also booked REN HK (which is more expensive than W, go figure), but my HK friends say that W is nicer.
I am wondering which one has better view of the harbor.
W HK has no lounge but REN has, though.
Ren has a view of the main harbour area (what you expect) whereas W is facing the harbour with all the shipping containers on Kowloon so it’s not as pretty. However, W has better hardware and they’ll usually upgrade to Cool Corner or if you’re lucky, a Fantastic Suite. I used an SNA for a Marvellous Suite a few weeks ago and it cleared even though showing sold out on app.
Breakfast better at W. REN has lounge and it’s OK but nothing special. Grand Hyatt is much better with harbour views from lounge too! Pool is actually shared with Grand Hyatt which means it can get crowded.
at REN I think they’ll upgrade to harbour view or the smaller suites but as I said, W has modern suites whereas REN needs a refurb.
You will get 2 drinks for the bar at W if that helps.
As for location, REN is better. W is in Elements mall but apart from that, not a lot around. It’s easier to get the ferry across from REN to Tsim Sha Tsui than bus from W. There can be a lot of traffic.
Based on the above, if for tourism, I’d probably go for REN but if for the suite then W. W still has dining credit packages ($1500 credit for around $3000) and 5000 bonus points. REN has triple points. Note that Le Meridien has finally reopened and they used to have good drinks and snacks (hot and cold) for elites. Might be worth considering as it has been renovated but seems a bit overpriced right now.
