Hi - I'm in a similar situation, so thank you to the person who started this thread. We are 4 travelling from ORD to DEL with a 10 hr layover in Heathrow in early Jan. We have transited through Heathrow before and are familiar with the airport and don't want to spend hours in the lounges.
Can we exit the airport and reenter to catch our connecting flight, or is that only allowed for EU travelers? As a group of 4 should we stick with public transport or is Uber a better bet?

Yes you can exit the airport and re-enter as long as you have the ability to enter the UK (e.g. US passport is fine, an Indian passport would require a visa). As long as there are no strikes on that day then public transport would be preferable - it will almost certainly be cheaper and quicker than an Uber from Heathrow to central London.
