Hey, I was just there today and wasn't even given a mini-bar key!

After arriving on an overnight HNL-LAX NW flight, I thought I was going to spend a 13-hour layover seeing some of the city's sights, but getting no sleep in Y on the NW 757, I opted to call some of the hotels around LAX for day room rates. I'll admit to being a MR fan, so called there first only to be told Marriott LAX full and phone agent didn't seem to be willing to check the other Marriott brand properties in the airport area. After striking out with Hilton LAX, called the Sheraton LAX and was also told no day room rate but unlike Marriott, this phone agent did take the initiative to check out other family locations nearby and connected me to the Westin LAX who did have a USD $80 rate for 9am-5pm, although they said was o.k. if I arrived earlier. Got my 7 hours sleep in a Heavenly bed in a nice room and caught the shuttle back quite refreshed. I'm sensing this location suffers from widely varying service standards? Overall, I was very pleased with the front desk staff, shuttle driver I dealt with and was pleased with the quality of the room and the hotel's location & amenities, though I wasn't there long enough to use any like the pool, etc.

BTW, is it just me or anyone else a little surprised more airport hotels @ LAX don't offer such a day room rate? I mean, the responses I was getting when I phoned around was the equivalent of a blank stare from the phone operators. With so many long-haul flights to/from LAX, you'd think there'd be a definate market for the Sheraton/Marriott/Hilton properties to offer such a service.
