That's true, but is only relevant in this instance. OP could just as easily be positioning for a cheap ex-EU fare on QR, or for a TJV fare that goes through HEL, MAD or even straight across the Pond first - any of which would be cheaper than the equivalent ex-UK in the vast majority of instances.
