Starting to feel the Omotenashi Again
Back in 2017 when I first visited Japan, it seems liked every hotel I stayed at had amazing service. However, this current trip, I had a number of disappointing stays at 5* Hotels, and I was honestly beginning to wonder whether the Japanese Hospitality/Omotenashi was slow to recover after COVID.
This hotel definitely made me feel the Omotenashi again.
As a Platinum member had booked a 2 Double bed, Skyline View, Guest Room and was upgraded to a grand deluxe larger skyline view corner room about 2 days before checkin and showing in the app
My suite upgrades didn’t clear but appears they were quite busy and no suites showing in the app, but I was quite happy with the spacious corner room, with great views of Nagoya from the soaker bath tub and from the room.
Star of this hotel, in my view, is the amazing concierge/butler. I booked stays at several hotels during my stay in Japan including Hyatt Kyoto, Andaz Tokyo, and Marriott Nagoya and e-mailed them all in advance and gave them the same task to try and secure tickets for me and only the butler/concierge here Matsubara-San was able to secure the tickets for me and he really went the extra mile to do so.
He was also spot on with dining recommendations, and able to secure reservations at a nearby 3* Michelin Restaurant, Hajime and also and an amazing Unagi place.
He had some great shopping recommendations for my wife.
Butlers are very responsive requests in the Marriott Chat App, and found that was the better way to communicate with them than over the phone with requests.
Breakfast service was very attentive.
We were celebrating a special occasion, and the hotel did a number of extra little things to make our occasion extra special.
Friendly staff all around definitely felt the Japanese hospitality/Omotenashi here and super happy with my stay here.
It was an elegant, luxurious, relaxing stay after less than stellar service levels at some other hotels in Japan recently, and would definitely stay here again.
As a bonus this stay put me over 50 nights to requalify for Platinum, and posted the day after I checked out of the hotel.
