An empty UG list for LAX-SJC would be pretty much unheard of, AFAIK.
Imagine being #1 or #2 on the UG list and missing out because two no-status passengers were given the last two first class seats because of an AA agent/computer screwup.
Shouldn't the GA have upgraded the first two from the UG list and then given the OP's parents the open economy seats?
