Minor correction: PlatPro is OneWorld Emerald, not sapphire.
PlatPro being made OWE is a relatively recent change (2021 I think?), so I'd be surprised if they did revert it back down to sapphire so quickly. That said, I do agree that the benefits of ExPlat over PlatPro are... Lacking, especially if you're someone who doesn't fly 30 segments (such as those who largely earn from RM).
As an aside, whoever at AA thought having 3 different tiers of their loyalty program being different shades of Platinum deserves to be fired. Easily the worst naming scheme of any major airline FF program.
