I will just highlight another fast and inexpensive way to prevent Avios from expiring. You need to have a UK registered BAEC membership and be a Uber App user, again based in the UK. The first stage is to like Uber to your BAEC number, which is done via the Account then Settings then Rewards options. Once done the screen should say "You're now collecting Avios".

Then all you need to do is to buy a train ticket on Uber, for perhaps a short train journey, anything over £1. You can even use a travel date well in advance, the Avios still credit very quickly, under an hour in some cases. The Avios credit isn't generous, 1 Avios per £1 spend, rounded down. But if you buy something like a single between Corbridge and Hexham (CRB and HEX are the short codes) then that I can see works quickly. The only problem is that some versions of the Uber App appear to hide the train purchase facility. You want the Travel tile, and in my case it's under Services on the bottom of the screen, in other cases you have to press Home and work through the options there.

It's probably best to have an updated Uber App before you start any of this.
