Stayed here for 2 nights a month ago, and this was my first Thompson and first time in Madrid. There were still a few hiccups but overall I was very impressed and can highly recommend this stay. During the day, there was construction work going on with on-and-off drilling and sawing which I found a bit annoying but thankfully the noise stopped at night. Not sure if this is still occurring.
First of all, my keycards didn't work. In trying to get back to the lobby (I still had my luggage with me) to talk with the front desk, I took an elevator around the corner of my room. Turns out this was a staff/cargo elevator which the hotel didn't disable or have any signs up saying "do not use" and was accessible not only on my floor but also the rooftop. Some of the buttons on said elevator were disabled and I got stuck in it and had to have a staff member guide me back to the lobby. Also I did see there was a rooftop bar but there were no signs saying it was not open yet/closed for the season. It's a nice area to just soak in the atmosphere and the evening air, however.
The room I received felt like an upgrade but I was not notified that I had been upgraded as a Discoverist, but the room, my god. Something about the decor, the design, the colour and material choices. It's modern, it's classy, it's elegant, and it's not overdone.
Every time I came back to the hotel, there was someone opening the door for me. I was greeted often. The staff were eager and willing to make sure that I was having an enjoyable stay. Upon checkout, I let them know of the need to put signs up on the elevator doors to make sure guests don't use it. I inspected my bill and found that I was not charged for the two times I had breakfast at the hotel, but the clerks were basically waving me away with a reply of "no, that's okay."
I paid 33,000 Hyatt points for my 2-night stay. The cash rates were around 465 EUR per night. A great value, but something tells me that the point prices will go up when Hyatt does their next round of re-valuations, unless Hyatt's cash pricing was too ambitious...
