I stayed at both earlier this month. The Aman is a short 5 minute walk but the atmosphere feels totally different. The Aman has less than 30 keys but the grounds are expansive. It feels like staying at a cabin in the middle of a forest and is much more one with nature. The ROKU feels like a large hotel and looks like one in comparison to the Aman. For me, the location of both the ROKU and Aman would not be one of my first choices for a stay in Kyoto unless I were there to spend much of my time relaxing and recharging at the hotel. If that were my purpose, I would much prefer the Aman over ROKU but then again, my rate at Aman was 3X more than ROKU so it's a huge difference in cost. With that said, I enjoyed my stays at both but they clearly felt like very different places.
