Sad to say that in countless trips and stays involving Jakarta, I've never visited either of these attractions.
I'm not knocking them, but i wonder if the paucity of true tourism icons and highlights is what pushes these into a top-ten listing. That said, I will certainly look into the aquarium on my next visit and thank you for drawing attention to it.
Malls and maybe Kota are Jakarta's main attractions, though i have a soft spot for the national museum.
Right, Jakarta still known to be the "place to spend a night before flying to Bali."
Of course, it also depends on how one defines a tourist spot. I'm all about architecture, history, and food -- hint, hint -- so it's the fact that Jakarta has folks from all over the country setting up restaurants that has kept me coming back. It's not a walkable city, it's difficult to breathe, and it floods easily, but a generally jovial population, and a diverse set of regional cuisines tempt me to visit for a few days every now and then.
