Ha ha this is a possibility. On reflection this particular booking became a accidental “vacation Package” as when I was checking out I decided to take BA up on the rental car and then Poof! A vacation package. Which I have never used before. And it became a tremendous effort to upgrade through this “package”. All other upgrades I’ve done were actually called in by phone and paid a bit more,
so your theory is actually quiet possible.
