Out of my depth here maybe. It appears this was a sudden action taken because of a Finnair stance to outsource cabin crew on some long haul routes during contract negotiations. Back in the day this was referred to as a 'wildcat' strike in the US. I wonder how this will affect compensation if Finnair goes to court in Finland against the union for their conduct.
The
Krüsemann case that clarified that compensation was due, was also wildcat in terms of the Tui unions. I suspect it's legal anyway.
