I am planning a trip to French Polynesia. I can fly BA or AA to LAX and then change to an Air Tahiti Nui flight onwards to Tahiti.

I recently read online that 3 hours connection time might not be enough, as I would need to collect baggage, re clear security et cetera. I was always under the impression that a connecting flight was protected and you got straight to the next flight without having to go through security etc again.

If this is the case, there are direct flights from Paris to Tahiti that stop at LAX but are sold as one ticket. Although these wouldn’t be with BA, so maybe this is not the right place to ask. But would a single carrier/ticket require a change of terminals etc?
