After five years in Malaysia and four in Shenzhen I'm now living in Thailand and will certainly be able to use three return flights to KL over the next year now all the nonsense has retreated. I'm considering buying the MHflypass ASEAN for MYR1,499 but want to know if anyone here has experience of this pass and can advise whether it's a good or bad idea.

Specifically:

1. Can the pass be used on pretty much any MH flight if there's availability in economy or do they limit the availability for these pass reservations to, for example, the lowest economy fare class which would severely limit its usefulness?

2. Is there any way of checking availability for specific flights in December that can be booked using this pass before I commit and buy the pass?

3. Is there any downside to using the six sectors of the pass for one-way journeys as I'm likely to fly BKK-KUL and want to return KUL-HKT as I'll be ultimately heading home to USM?

4. I'm Cathay Gold - I can use priority check in and get lounge access at BKK and KUL on reservations made using this pass?

5. Is there anything else I should know about buying and redeeming this pass for flights BKK-KUL-BKK?
