As for the 10k Yen kaiseki at Senjyukaku, the presentation and service were great. Very gracious service, especially because they had to adjust to my partner being a pescatarian (the front desk noted this when making the reservation for us). The food, however, seemed all pre-prepared and not fresh. FYI, they ask you to select white or radish rice (highly recommended!). Both are brought to the table in a rather large container that they scoop the rice from and then leave at the table. It seems it is meant to be taken home, which is odd for a culture that is about just-enough.
It is quite common for kaiseki restaurants to offer the remaining rice to take home, typically they will make it in to onigiri for lunch or breakfast the following day. I have even had this at Michelin 3 star restaurants. The rice is part of the pride of the chef and the restaurant.
