I spent an hour on the phone with Manila. The agent was quite catagoric that if I booked a room for my daughter using my points I must be present at check in or I was breaching the new terms and conditions and ran the risk of account closure.
I asked about workarounds and was advised there were none, and spoke to a supervisor and got the same story.
I was shocked as I have seen nothing in writing, and for me it is a significant devaluation of IHG rewards.
I ended up making a booking in a different hotel for my daughter using Hilton points.
