Seems every flight I've been on lately is announced as being "totally full" only to realize once in the air there are a dozen or more empty seats. What's their point in doing this? The only thing I can think is it's to encourage people to check their overhead bags but when the flights aren't full it seems there is usually space anyway.
The flight might actually more full than the empty seats reflect upon door closure; haven't you noticed those pages at every airport for So-and-So please proceed immediately to your gate, the boarding door will close in approximately 2 minutes?
